mynewsdesk.com – Actor Joel Kinnaman is no stranger to the fight against the child sex industry. His successful career, particularly his role as Detective Stephen Holder in the acclaimed AMC/Netflix series The Killing, has given him insight to the harsh realities of the child sex industry.
“There are few things that I find more horrifying and devastating, than kids being bought and sold for sexual purposes. If I can contribute to children’s rights in this way, I will do my very best,” says Kinnaman.
He previously worked with ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes) on a global campaign against child trafficking and is now stepping up as the organization’s Goodwill Ambassador.
His first appearance will be on August 1, 2014 at an event in Visby, Sweden. This small, bucolic island recently started the largest trial in its history – two suspects are charged with abusing numerous girls in a large scale sex case.
“Joel comes highly suited for this role. He will amplify the message that commercial sexual exploitation of children is a global problem and that no community, regardless of geography, or culture, is immune to its abuse of children’s rights. I’m very happy for his strong commitment to make a difference,” says ECPAT Sweden’s Executive Director Anders L. Pettersson.
About ECPAT: ECPAT International is a global network of organisations working together for the elimination of child prostitution, child pornography and the trafficking of children for sexual purposes. It seeks to ensure that children everywhere enjoy their fundamental rights free and secure from all forms of commercial sexual exploitation.
